The Sackville Sports Heritage Society was established in 1981 by a group of local residents with a mandate to honour athletes, teams and administrators involved in local competition and beyond. While the Society and it’s mandate faded for a number of years, the Sackville Sports Heritage Hall of Fame was resurrected in 2002 with a push from former Sackville resident Ron Hefler. Bill MacDonald, a former county councillor and MLA, succeeded Hefler as president in 2003 and has been invaluable in keeping the Society alive.
The Society’s mission is to promote and encourage minor sports programs in the community and recognize those who have excelled in various levels of competition as athletes, teams and builders on the provincial, national and international stages. The Hall is located in the Sackville Sports Stadium.
The Society will be announcing a group of new inductees to the Hall in early 2021.
